Happy Tuesday!

Here is what we did today:

Math: Today we discussed adding a zero to decimal numbers. Problem set 102 was assigned and is due on Wednesday. We will be taking our first Benchmark test tomorrow. This is something new to assess skills that have been taught this grading period.

Science: We discussed Newton's third law. We watched an experiment and we worked on a study guide dealing with Newton's laws.

Social Studies: Today we turned in our projects that we have been working on for the past three weeks.

Spelling: We took a pretest over unit 25 and our workbook pages are due on Thursday.

English/Writing: We discussed prepositional phrases and did an activity dealing with them. We had a writing journal assignment of our choice.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we listened to a story about friends and we wrote a paragraph detailing how we met our best friends. Some of these were shared in class.

In Mr. H's class we worked on our new story Running Out of Time. We read chapters 1 and 2.

Happy Monday!

Here is what we did today:

Math: Today we discussed Investigation 10 dealing with coordinate graphs. Graphiti 17 A was assigned as homework.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we did some comparison with the story we have been listening to in class.

In Mrs. H's class we started a new story today.

Science: We watched an experiment dealing with Newton's second law. We are to read about Newton's third law in our books for Tuesday.

Social Studies: The projects are due tomorrow! This was the students last chance to work in class on this project.

English/Writing: We watched a Mayberry video and we used that to write a paper on life skills.

Spelling: Unit 25 is our list for this week. Today we wrote our words 5 times each. Here are the words: director, pitcher, commander, colonist, typist, scientist, editor, homemaker, operator, professor, creditor, instructor, artist, passenger, inventor, tourist, cyclist, actor, publisher, gardener. We will take a pretest tomorrow, the workbook will be due on Thursday and final test on Friday.

Happy Friday!

Here is what we did today:

Math: Today we went over our last assessment and checked to make sure the students new what was going on. The students then had a chance to take a make up take home test if they wanted to improve their grades. We are finding that students are missing points for leaving off labels, not reducing fractions and silly arithmetic errors. We hope that the students take this opportunity to correct their mistakes.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we worked on our Olympic Packets and we went and worked with our 1st grade buddies.

In Mr. H's class we had a reading comprehension worksheet and we read a Time for Kids magazine on the Olympics.

Social Studies: We continued work on our partner projects that are due on Tuesday.

Spelling: Today we took at test our unit 24 which was a review list.

Happy Thursday!

Here is what we did today:

Math: Today we discussed Problem set 101 was assigned and is due on Friday.

Science: Today we discussed the laws of motion.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we did an Olympic activity in class that we will continue to work on tomorrow.

In Mr. H's class we read from the textbook page 154-157 a story about a city in Norway. We also did Olympic activity.

Spelling: We turned in our workbook pages and we will have a test on Friday.

Social Studies: We continued to work on our group projects that are due next Tuesday.

English/Writing: We wrote a story about Scooter the Skater.

Here is what we did today:

Math: We took a test over skills previously taught.

Spelling: Workbook pages for unit 24 are due tomorrow! Final test will be on Friday.

Social Studies: We continued to work on our reports. The projects are due next Tuesday, February 28th!

Science: We did an experiment dealing with motion. The students are to read lesson 3 and complete worksheet 132A.

English/Writing: We wrote letters to our pen pals.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we looked at our newspapers and continued our Olympic discussion.

In Mr. H's class we read a story about Michelle Kwan from our textbooks and we discussed the Olympics.

Happy Tuesday!
We hope you had a wonderful long weekend!

Here is what we did today:

Math: We discussed simplifying decimals. Problem set 100 was assigned and is due on Wednesday. We will have a test on Wednesday over items previously learned.

Science: We discussed motion from lesson 1 chapter 13 today in class. We looked at a demonstration of acceleration.

Social Studies: We continued to work on our African American Reports which are due next Tuesday.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we read from the newspaper and discussed the Olympics. We also did a search on the internet for information dealing with President's day.

In Mr H's class we spent time working on Social Studies reports and extra time was given. We also did a comprehension sheet that is due on Wednesday.

Spelling: Unit 24 is a review list we spent today taking a pretest and copying words three times each. This week the workbook will be due on Thursday and final test on Friday.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we read articles from the newspaper on the Olympics and we discussed them together.

In Mr. H's class we finished reading The City of Ember.

Spelling: The workbook pages were due today and the final test will be on Friday.

Social Studies: We continued to work on the African American projects.

Here is what we did today:

Math: We discussed negative numbers and problem set 98 was assigned and due on Thursday.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we continued to read from the newspaper about the Olympics. The students completed a Venn diagram comparing two articles.

In Mr. H's class we read from The City of Ember chapters 16 and 17.

Spelling: Workbook pages for Unit 23 are due tomorrow and the test will be on Friday. We also looked up the definitions of the homophones and wrote a sentence for each word.

Science: We began chapter 13 dealing with forces and motions. We looked up and discussed the vocabulary for the first lesson. We had worksheet 127 as homework.

Social Studies: We had time to work on our African American History project.

English/Writing: In Mr. H's class we had a writing prompt.

Here is what we did today:

Math: We had a lesson on Ratios. A Valentine's sheet dealing with ratios was assigned for homework.

Science: We took an open book test over chapter 12.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we had computer class and passed out Valentines.

In Mr. H's class we read chapters 14-15 in The City of Ember.

Spelling: Unit 23 was assigned and is due on Thursday.

Social Studies: We continued to work on our reports.

Happy Monday!

Here is what we did today:

Math: Today we discussed using reciprocals to divide fractions. The students were assigned problem set 96. If the students could solve ten chosen problems without error then they did not have to do the rest of the problem set. This was to encourage them to slow down and take their time. We had a few do it and we hope that this was a bonus for them.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we read from the newspaper and discussed the Olympics. We worked on summarizing skills. We also worked on our final drafts of our writing piece.

In Mr. H's class we read from The City of Ember chapters 12-13.

Science: We reviewed for our test in Science over chapter 12. The students have a study guide that they completed as a class.

Social Studies: We worked with our partners on our projects and we finished the video on Ruby Bridges.

Spelling: We will be working on unit 23 this week. Here are the words: vane, principal, country, weight, kennel, vein, county, coarse, invent, except, colonel, diary, capitol, accept, vain, principle, event, capital, diary, course. Today we wrote these words 5 times each and we will have a pretest on Tuesday.

English/Writing: In Mr. H's class we did a writing prompt.

Here is what we did today:

Math: We took the six weeks computation test today. We will have an assessment from our textbook series tomorrow.

Science: We continued to discuss lesson 3 chemical properties. Today the homework is to read lesson 4 and complete the packet. This will be due on Monday.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we discussed the Off and Running story and we will be having a test over this book on Monday.
In Mr. H's class we read from The City of Ember chapters 8 and 9.

Spelling: Unit 22 workbook was collected today. The final test will be on Friday.

English/Writing: We did a review sheet for this unit page 275 and we completed a quick write in class.

Social Studies: In Mrs. D's class we began watching Ruby Bridges. In Mr. H's class we read a story from One More River to Cross.

Here is what we did today:

Math: Today we discussed reciprocals. Problem set 95 was assigned and is due on Thursday. On Thursday we will be taking our 6 weeks computation test. On Friday we will be taking a test from our math series. (NO MATH homework on Thursday and Friday!)

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we did our school wide writing prompt today during reading time. Ask your child what they wrote about!

In Mr. H's class we continued to read from The City of Ember chapter 7,

Science: We discussed lesson 3 in chapter 12 dealing with chemical reactions. For homework read pages 381-385 and complete sheet 122A.

Social Studies: We started working with our partner's on our African American projects.

Spelling: Spelling workbooks are due on Thursday! Final test on Friday!

English/Writing: In Mrs. D's class we completed an English unit review sheet.
In Mr. H's class we completed our grade level writing prompt.

Here is what we did today:

Math: Today we worked with using estimation when dividing by two digit numbers. Problem set 94 was assigned and is due on Wednesday.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we discussed Off and Running and we are to finish the book and complete the comparison paper.
In Mr. H's class we read from The City of Ember chapter 6 pages 84-92. We also did a reading comprehension sheet.

English/Writing: We did a paragraph correction sheet.

Spelling: Today we took a pretest over unit 22 and we worked on workbook pages 134-137 that are due on Thursday.

Social Studies: We read about a famous black American.
We also continue to work on partner project.

Science: Today we discussed 375-378 dealing with chemical changes. For homework they need to read 379-381 and finish worksheet 121A.

Here is what we did today:

Math: Today we discussed bar graphs. We also continued to practice long division. Problem 93 was assigned and is due on Tuesday.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we finished listening to The Applewhites in class and we took the AR test. We also visited the book fair!
In Mr. H's class we read from The City of Ember pages

Spelling: Unit 22 will be this weeks list. Here are the words, outline home run, full-time, up-to-date, homework, peanut butter, waterproof, make-believe, downstairs, themselves, merry-go-round, underline, part of speech, sweatshirt, forty-four, good-bye, double-header, itself, twenty-seven, parcel post. Today we wrote our words 5 times each. A pretest will be given on Tuesday.

Social Studies: Today the student's learned who their partners were for the African American History project. They will be researching and producing a poster about their person.

Science: Today we continued to discuss chemical changes worksheet 120A was assigned and is due on Tuesday.

English/writing: We had a writing topic about animals

Here is what we did today:

Math: Today we discussed and practiced dividing by two digit numbers. This is a hard concept and Mr. G really worked with the students on getting this concept. For homework the students had nine problems to solve!

Science: The students had a crossword puzzle to solve.

Spelling: We took a unit 21 spelling test.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we had first grade buddies, we listened to the Applewhite's story and we took our last spell bowl test.

In Mr. H's class we read from the City of Ember chapter 4.

English/Writing: We completed an adjectives worksheet and wrote to our pen pals.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we competed a character map and we read chapters 3-4- and 5 in our book Off and Running.

In Mr. H's class we continued The City of Ember and completed chapter 3.

Spelling: Today we turned in our workbook pages and our test over unit 21 will be on Friday.

Happy Wednesday!

Here is what we did today:

Today was group picture day so it was a little hectic this morning!

Math: Today we did an investigation dealing with Line Graphs. The students did a nice job dealing with this topic.

Science: Today we took a test over chapter 11. If the students had their study guides with them they probably did a wonderful job! Mr. G also did an experiment to introduce the next chapter on chemistry.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class some of the rough drafts were shared. We also began reading a new book, Off and Running. Chapters 1 and 2 were to be read for tomorrow.
In Mr. H's class we read from The City of Ember pages 27-37.

Spelling: Unit 21 workbook pages should be handed in on Thursday and the final test will be on Friday. We also did a spelling activity dealing with unit 21.

English/Writing: We did a quick story write.

Social Studies: We were introduced to the month long African American History unit.
