This will be our last entry for this school year!

Today is field day and tomorrow is our graduation!

Happy Tuesday! We are winding down and the kids are winding up!

Here is what we did today!

Math: In Mrs. D's class we worked on a subtracting of mixed numbers worksheet. The kids are doing very well with these. It is great to see how far they have come! Mr. H's class did not come for math today due to social studies group time.

Spelling: Study words.

English: Mrs. D's class worked with their first grade buddies and designed an animal to put into a habitat that they have studied. Mr. H's class did a paragraph correction.

No Science/Health

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we finished up the reports on the "It's Your Choice" Reading projects. Due to absent students we will have two reports tomorrow! In Mr. H's class we read from Chicken Soup for the Kids Soul.

Social Studies: We discussed some history together and then we started to watch the more A Perfect Tribute stopping to discuss during the video.

Happy Monday!

Sorry this is late but we had computer issues yesterday!

Here is what we did on Monday:

Math: We worked on more fractions, adding and subtracting. We had a worksheet dealing with fractions and the Solar System!

Spelling: Our last spelling list was introduced. We wrote our words 2 times each and here are our words: although, joking, crayon, typhoon, cruise, buffaloes, ache, raccoon, heroes, earthquake, beliefs, pyramids, automatic, lifeguard, salmon, photograph, dishonest, exercise, field, oyster, lawyer, channel, escaped, twentieth, breathe, downtown, halves, plaques.

English: We worked on a paragraph correction worksheet. In Mrs. D's class we also worked with our first grade buddies on their research reports.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we started presenting our reports on our "It's Your Choice" projects. The rest of the class will be presenting on Tuesday. In Mr. H's class we read in Chicken Soup for the Soul.

Social Studies. In Mrs. D's class we continued to read in George Washington's Socks.

Happy Thursday!

Mrs. D was not here today but this is what we did without her here:

Math: We worked on adding and subtracting mixed numbers. The students worked on a worksheet and had to correct their mistakes before moving on. The students that were struggling with fractions seem to be making headway and their work is getting better.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we worked on our reading project.
In Mr. H's class we continued work on our choice projects.

Spelling: Workbook pages due and took review word test.

Health/Science: We took our test and turned in our notes.

English: In Mrs. D's class we worked with our 1st grade buddies on their research papers on animals.

**Reminder: Tomorrow is our field trip to Science Central. Please do not forget to pack a lunch if one was not ordered for you! Also, you may bring something to do on the bus but it will be left on the bus so make sure that it is not something that you will be heartbroken if it is lost/stolen.

Happy Wednesday!

Today was our "Meet the Teacher" day for grades K - 4. Our 5th graders had an extra recess which they, of course, enjoyed!

Here is what we did today:

Math: We took our final math computation test. The kids said that it keeps getting easier each time we take it! This test was designed to test the computation skills that 5th graders need to move on to 6th grade.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we continued to work on our reading projects.
In Mr. H's class we continued to work on our choice reading.

Spelling: Workbook pages are due tomorrow! We will also be taking a test tomorrow.

Health/Science: We reviewed for our test that we will take tomorrow! The students had a review assignment pages 238-239 in the health book numbers 1-24 all.

Social Studies: We did not take the test due to copy machine break down. We read the next two chapters in George Washington's Socks. We also finished the Liberty Kids video.

English: Not due to meet the teacher.

Happy Tuesday:

Here is what we did today:

Math: Today we worked on adding and subtracting fractions. We had a worksheet that dealt with both. The students that finished in class had to have their problems checked and corrected before they could turn them in.

Spelling: Workbook pages are due on Thursday.

Science/Health: We finished chapter 5 and tomorrow we will be reviewing for the test to be taken on Thursday.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we continued to work on our projects as well as helping our 1st grade buddies work on a research project on animals.
In Mr. H's class we did a comprehension worksheet and read their choice books.

Social Studies: We watched a Liberty Kids video. We will be having an open book test tomorrow over the Revolutionary War.

English: In Mr. H's class we worked on paragraph corrections. In Mrs. D's class we worked with our 1st grade buddies on their projects.

Happy Monday!

Only one more Monday! It is hard to believe that time has flown so quickly. Our Graduation will be on Friday, May 27th at 1:00pm in the gym. We hope to see a lot of parents in the audience.

Here is what we did today:

Math: We reviewed reducing fractions and adding fractions with different denominators. The students worked on a worksheet and some finished in class while others are still working.

Spelling: We are doing review lesson 36. The students wrote the words three times each today and their workbook pages 218-221 are due on Thursday. Here is the list of words to practice: suppose, address, beautiful, separate, sincerely, although, language, umbrella, government, cousin, energetic, humorous, foolish, dangerous, mysterious, pleasant, marvelous, selfish, vacant, famous, lengthen, public, narrow, forward, entrance, freedom, delight, private, whole, entire, guitar, plaid, burro, kimono, shampoo, macaroni, alligator, chipmunk, robot, karate, hr., pkg., wt., lb., co., yr., sq., ft., yd., in.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we continued to work on our "It's Your Choice" reading project. We also finished the read aloud Hitler's Daughter this was a really good book. Ask your child about it!
In Mr. H's class we worked on two comprehension worksheets.

Science/Health: In Mr. H's class we discussed lesson 4 and answered a few questions in our packet. In Mrs. D's class we discussed lessons 4 and 5 and answered questions in our packet.

Social Studies : In Mrs. D's class we read George Washington's Socks chapters 12-15. In Mr. H's class we watched a Liberty Kids video.

English: We worked on our paragraph corrections.

Happy Friday!

Can you believe that we only have ten days to go!

Here is what we did today:

Math: We went over our test that we took on Tuesday and we all corrected our problems that we missed. When we finished correcting we got back to work on our tessellations. We are almost finished and they are turning our great!

Spelling: We took our final test.

Reading: Mrs. D's class worked on our "It's Your Choice" project. This is due on Monday, May 23.
Mr. H's class worked on their individual books as well.

English: The 4th grade letter/essays are due on Monday!

Social Studies: In Mrs. D's class wee read chapters 9, 10 and 11 in George Washington's Socks. In both classes we watched a video on the Revolutionary War.

Science/Health: We did not have time due to time needed to work on our test corrections and tessellations.

Happy Tessellating Thursday!

We had a good day today and spent some relaxing time working on our tessellations. They are turning out great, we hope that you enjoy them when they come home!

*Our PRIDE students are gone on an overnight field trip so we had smaller groups today!

Here is what we did today:

Math: We worked on our tessellation projects. Most students finished their plan and began to work on their final project.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we worked on our "It's Your Choice" reading project. This is to be completed by May 23, so read, read, read!
In Mr. H's class we began reading a paperback book of our choice from the reading series group of books. Ask your child which book he/she chose.

Spelling: Our workbook pages were collected and we will have a test on Friday!

Science/Health: We did not have time for health due to PE/Music and tessellation work.

Social Studies: In Mrs. D's class we read chapters 7 and 8 in George Washington's Socks.
In Mr. H's class we had a study hall today to work on our reading, math corrections and our tessellations.

English: The students were given their 4th grade letters/essays to make necessary corrections. The final copies are due on Monday.

Happy Wednesday!

We hope you have had a great day! We have been pretty busy today!

Here is what we did:

Math: Today for math we began work on tessellations. We learned how some shapes can tessellate an area. We looked at Escher drawings and saw how he used tessellations to form some of his art. We also designed our own special pieces that we will use to tessellate an area.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we worked on our reading projects.
In Mr. H's class we did a comprehension worksheet and we did pages 6 and 7 out of our practice book.

Science/Health: In Mrs. D's we discussed lesson 3 of chapter 6 and did a worksheet on vocabulary. In Mr. H's we continued to work on our tessellations so that Mrs. D's class could catch up.

Social Studies: Mrs. D's class we read through chapter 5 in George Washington's Socks. In Mr. H's class we worked on a contest piece for Notre Dame.

English: Mr. H is editing the 4th grade letters/essay.

Spelling: Workbook pages are due tomorrow. We also had a worksheet that is due tomorrow. Test on Friday.

Happy Toasty Tuesday! What a beautiful day!

We hope that this bolg is serving some of you well. We would appreciate any comments that you have to make this even better!

Here is what we did today:

Math: We took our last regular test from our textbook series. YEAH!

Spelling: We took a pretest over our list words. Those students who missed zero will have to pick their challenge words by Thursday and have them approved. Remember that the workbook is due on Thursday.

Reading: Mrs. D's class we worked on our "It's Your Choice" reading project. Every student has picked a book and has had it approved. They need to be reading every day. This project is to be completed by Monday, May 23.
Mr. H's class we finished George Washington's Socks and took the AR over the book.

Science/Health: Mr. H's class we finished lesson 3 of chapter 6 talking about reasons why we should never try drugs. The students had a vocabulary worksheet that is due on Wednesday as well as a few questions to answer in their notes.
Mrs. D's class we did not have time for health due to Library and PE. We will catch up on Wednesday.

Social Studies: We finished the video on the Revolutionary War. In Mrs. D's class we also started reading George Washington's Socks. We read chapter 1 together and 2 on our own.

English: We need to continue work on our essay/letters to the current 4th graders. We will be editing them on Wednesday.

Happy Monday! We hope you had a delightful weekend!

Here is what we did today!

Math: We did our last problem set 120. We worked on learning how to multiply mixed numbers. We will have a test on Tuesday.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we were introduced to our new reading project. It is called "It's Your Choice!" Each student is picking a book to read, and getting it approved. Ask your child to see the packet of information that they received today detailing what is expected of them during this project. The due date for completion of the book and projects is May 23. Thanks for your help!
In Mr. H's class read chapters 17 & 18 in George Washington's Socks.

Spelling: We wrote our words 3 times each. Our list this week is unit 35 Abbreviations. Here are the words: apt., no., qt., in., gal., oz., yd., lb., sq., Gen., ave., wt., yr., co., doz., pkg., amt., pt., hr., ft. This should be an easy spelling week! The spelling book pages 212-213-214-215 are due on Thursday and we will have a pretest on Tuesday!

Science/Health - We began looking at vocabulary for lesson 3 for Chapter 6. We will continue discussing this lesson on Tuesday.

Social Studies - Continued the video on the Revolutionary War today we watched about the writing of the Declaration of Independence.

English -The students are writing a letter/essay concerning their experiences in the 5th grade. They are writing these to the current 4th graders. This is to be 5 paragraph essay/letter with the following criteria: 1st paragraph - Introduction of self and paper
2nd -4th paragraphs - three topics/events that happen in 5th grade that you liked or disliked and that you want to share with the 4th graders.
5th paragraph - conclusion (wish them well etc.)
The rough draft is due at the end of class Tuesday, and we will then edit and rewrite the essay/letters later in the week. Final copies will be due on Monday.

Happy Friday! We hope all of you moms have a great Mother's Day!

We had another busy Friday. We had our annual "talk" with separate boy and girl presentation. A note was sent home over a week ago detailing what would go on. The kids handled this very maturely.

Here is what we did:

Math: We did problem set 119 dealing with dividing decimals by decimals.

Reading: Mrs. D's class went to work with our 1st grade buddies.
Mr. H's class read chapters 16 & 17 in George Washington's Socks.

Social Studies: In class open book test.

Science/Health: We had our "talk".

Spelling: We had a spelling test.

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

What a talent filled Thursday! We watched the talent show dress rehearsal this afternoon. What a bunch of talented students we have here at Menominee!

Here is what we did today:
Math: We worked on Problem set 118 where we learned about diving decimal numbers where we use zeros as placeholders. We also reveiwed the Decimal Slide when dividing decimal numbers by powers of ten.

Reading: We took our semester test in reading and language arts today.

Spelling: We turned in our workbook pages and will have a test on Friday.

Science/Health: Nothing due to the talent show.

Social Studies: Nothing due to the talent show

English: We did an activity that involved our spelling words.

*We had a quick day with everything going on! Did I say last week that this week was going to be a normal week?? I do not remember what normal is!

Happy Wednesday!

It looks like it is a beautiful day outside. We have had a very busy day here at school. We took a semester test in Math today and it was a long one! I think that the students did a nice job!

The computer lab was closed today so, we had a lot of time in our room!

Here is what we did today:

Math: We took the semester math test and it was LONG.

Spelling: The workbook pages are due on Thursday.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we finished our books today and we took the AR tests when we were finished.
Mr. H's class we read chapters 11, 12 and 13 in George Washington's Socks.

Science/Health: Mrs. D's class watched a video and Mr. H's class continued to work on the math semester test.
Both classes were given information on our annual Egg Drop contest. We are having this optional activity on May 26. It is a lot of fun, so encourage your child to give it a shot!

Social Studies: We began Swamp Fox.

English: Mrs. D's class worked on a paragraph correction sheet that Mr. H's class did yesterday.
We are also working on a writing prompt: What makes me feel safe?

* Reminder that Science Central permission slips and money are due ASAP. We need to get our numbers finalized. Remember that any parent who wants to attend is welcomed to come. When the bus is full we can have some parents car pool behind the bus. This is a great trip!

Happy Tuesday! We hear that today is the supposed to be the coolest day of the week. We are supposed to have temperatures in the 70's towards the weekend! We are ready!

Here is what we did today:

Math: Problem set 117, Dividing decimals by a whole number. We also went over our review sheet from yesterday to get ready for the semester test we are taking tomorrow!

Reading: Mrs. D's class - we read our books, Tarantula - chapters 12-13 and 14, Frindle - chapters 13 & 14, and Pinballs - chapters 18, 19, 20, 21,22. We also got into our groups and discussed our questions that we wrote yesterday.
In Mr. H's class - We read chapters 11-12-13 in George Washington's Socks.

Spelling: We had a pretest and worksheet 34.

English: We wrote an essay from one of three story starters. We worked on pen pal letters as well. We also had a paragraph correction sheet to work on.

Health: Mr. H's class watched a video on Dangerous Drugs. Mrs. D's class did not have health today due to Library and PE.

Social Studies: We watched a Liberty Kids video.

*Mrs. D and Mr. H were in meetings this afternoon so there were substitutes in the classrooms for the afternoon.

Happy May Monday!

It is so hard to believe that we only have 19 days left of school. Time has sure flown! We will be taking semester tests this week in math and language arts. This will give us an idea of the things that we still need to cover before school lets out for the summer! This week should be a little less frantic but you never know!

Here is what we did today:

Math : We reviewed for our semester test and had a 15 question worksheet to do. We will take our semester test on Wednesday.

Spelling : We wrote our words three times each. We will take a pretest on Tuesday. Here are this weeks words: haiku, macaroni, karate, chipmunk, alligator, knapsack, boomerang, plaza, kimono, plaid, robot, waffle, crochet, yogurt, shampoo, beret, burro, guitar, hammock, yodel
The workbook this week will be due on Thursday, pages 206-207-208-209. This is a difficult lesson so do not wait until Wednesday night to complete.

Reading: In Mrs. D's class we worked on our novels. Frindle - Chapters 11 & 12, Tarantula - Chapters 10 & 11, and Pinballs - Chapters 15, 16, and 17. Also each student was to come up with two questions and answers from what they have read so far. We will be using these questions tomorrow.
In Mr. H's class - We read chapters 8-9 & 10 in George Washington's Socks.

Health : We discussed lesson 2 of chapter 6 and answered four questions on page 7 of our notes.

Social Studies: We watched a video titled George Washington.

English: In Mr. H's class we did a paragraph editing sheet.
In Mrs. D's class we wrote a paragraph about our trip to Lincoln.

*Our Science Central field trip permission slips went home on Friday. We can take any parents who want to attend. It costs $4.00 per person. It is a great trip. We learn a lot and have a lot of fun!
